Senate forms body on devolution plan

ISLAMABAD: The federal government would find itself in hot waters for not implementing the devolution plan in true spirit of the 18th amendment as the Senate on Thursday okayed formation of a committee to examine various steps by the government in devolution process and also looking into the procedural problems in this regard.   Senator Mian Raza Rabbani moved the motion under Rule 204 of the Rules of Procedures and Conduct of Business that was adopted unanimously by the House.The committee has been given three-month time to submit a report on the devolution process

Karachi uplift projects under ADP reviewed

Karachi,  Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed said only those projects would get funds under annual development program which were already in the stage of completion or reached the advance stage and would complete in the current financial year. He said this while addressing a meeting here Thursday to review the pace of work on various ongoing development schemes and projects and preparations of next schemes under annual development program

Patients curse doctors for strike

LAHORE   On the call of the Young Doctors Association (YDA), Punjab, young doctors observed a complete strike in Out-Patient Departments (OPDs) in all teaching hospitals all over Punjab on Monday to protest against the Punjab Health Department’s decision to transfer ad hoc postgraduate trainees and post newly-selected medical officers by the Punjab Public Service Commission primarily in teaching hospitals of Lahore.   However, the outdoor strike entered the fifth day in teaching hospitals of Lahore, which caused immense hardships for patients and their attendants

Augmented National Emergency Action Plan being implemented

Rawalpindi   The provincial government is busy implementing augmented National Emergency Action Plan (NEAP) to eradicate polio while union council polio eradication committees are also in the making in the province to make anti-polio drives more effective.   The NEAP was announced by the president of Pakistan last year to combat polio. This year, augmented NEAP is being implemented by the provinces on the advice of the federal government

KMC assures solving problems of tanneries

Posted about 4 hours ago | Karachi,  Municipal Commissioner KMC Matanat Ali Khan has said problems of Pakistan Tanneries Association would be solved on preferential basis. Presiding over a meeting with the delegation of Pakistan Tanneries Association he said officers of Health Department of KMC would visit the Korangi Industrial Area to review and take measures for providing better facilities to tanneries for lifting of garbage in the area.

After capital, pollen allergy cases increasing in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi   After Islamabad, the population in Rawalpindi district is facing a great threat of getting pollen allergy or acute asthma in result of continuously increasing number of paper mulberry trees in the district within the past few years.   Data collected by ‘The News’ has revealed that the number of cases of pollen allergy in Rawalpindi is increasing every year. The medicine departments at all the three teaching hospitals in town have been receiving significant influx of patients with pollen allergy and the number is continuously on the rise.

Committee formed to look into demands of nurses

Karachi :  A committee comprising of Sindh Health Minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed and Sindh Minister for Finance Syed Murad Ali Shah was formed by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah which would look into the demands of protesting nurses while a report in this regard would be presented to the CM. This was decided during a high-level meeting at CM House with CM Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah in chair on Thursday

Two children die at NICH, paramedical staff and nurses on strike

Karachi,  Two children died at Nation Institute of Child Health on Thursday where all the healthcare activities remained suspended as the boycott of duties by paramedical staff and nurses continues since March 24. The patients coming in critical condition were being directed to other private hospitals, as there was no staff available to perform duties at emergency, which was causing severe difficulties to the parents.
