ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s twin deficits, including fiscal and current account deficit widened in the outgoing fiscal year, leaving no other option, but to seek the balance of payments support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the next fiscal year 2012/13 to avoid plunging of the economy, sources said on Friday. Top guns of the ministry of finance said that the budget deficit, excluding Rs391 billion for power sector consolidation is going to miss by at least 0.3 percent of GDP because of non-materialisation of 3G licence in the outgoing fiscal year, pushing ballooning the deficit to five percent of GDP against the revised target of 4.7 percent of GDP. “Yes, this deficit will touch five percent of GDP for 2011/12,” adviser to the ministry of finance, Rana Assad Amin, told The News

ISLAMABAD: Different federal ministries have proposed various development projects cumulatively worth Rs180 billion for inclusion in the upcoming Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) of the 2012-13 fiscal year, a senior official at the Planning Commission told The News. “The state-owned corporations such as Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and the National Highway Authority (NHA) are likely to get allocation of Rs98 billion in total,” the official said, adding an amount of Rs50 billion is likely to be sanctioned for WAPDA and Rs48 billion for NHA
