Presidential Ordinance to impose CGT from April

KARACHI: A tax amnesty scheme for stock market will be implemented through presidential order from April 01, and no questions will be asked about the source of investment for the shares held for more than 120 days, said Shahid Hussain Asad, Member, Inland Revenue, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said on Friday. “Eighth schedule will be introduced to Income Tax Ordinance 2001 through presidential order and investment details of share holding for more than 120 days will be not asked,” he said while talking to The News after Tax Reform Group (TRG) meeting held at Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) Karachi. He said that the presidential order would be effective April 01.

KSE index hits four-year high

KARACHI: The Karachi Stock Exchange’s (KSE) benchmark KSE 100 share index gained 139 points to close at four-year high above 12,877 points on Wednesday on significant buying in energy, fertiliser and cement stocks after foreigners poured in more funds in the surging market, said dealers on Wednesday. “The yesterday’s foreign buying worth $2.22 million boosted local investors’ confidence at KSE,” said Sajjad Mankani, chief executive officer of Icon Capital Management. He added that authorities’ fresh assurance of implementing relaxed rules in capital gains tax (CGT) regime equally played an important role in pushing the market to new high level.
