Islamabad   Moving scenes were witnessed at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Benazir Bhutto International Airport and at the site of plane crash here on Saturday.   All rescue teams particularly Triple One Brigade remained busy in search of more bodies and their belongings from the plane-crash site

Mayhem at Karachi airport after plane crash near Islamabad

Karachi   As the Bhoja Air Boeing 737, flying from Karachi to Islamabad, crashed near the capital city on Friday evening, family members of the passengers thronged the Jinnah International Airport for information of their loved ones.   At least 127 people were killed in the crash, with conflicting reports about the exact number of deaths. Hundreds of panicked men and women gathered at the airport only to jostle around in a maze of rumours, as no officials of the Bhoja Air or the Civil Aviation Authority were present to deal with the situation

Wassan appeals JSQM to withdraw strike call

Karachi,  Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Hussain Wassan appealed to the leaders of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) to withdraw their strike call on Saturday. Speaking to the media on his residence, here on Friday, he said that further medical examination of body parts of late chairman JSQM Bashir Qureshi has been sent to an internationally recognized laboratory on the request of his widow and son. He said that the satisfaction of the family members of deceased leader would be ensured, while written orders have already been given in this regard

Federal ministries propose projects worth Rs180bn for next year

ISLAMABAD: Different federal ministries have proposed various development projects cumulatively worth Rs180 billion for inclusion in the upcoming Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) of the 2012-13 fiscal year, a senior official at the Planning Commission told The News.   “The state-owned corporations such as Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and the National Highway Authority (NHA) are likely to get allocation of Rs98 billion in total,” the official said, adding an amount of Rs50 billion is likely to be sanctioned for WAPDA and Rs48 billion for NHA

CDA embarks on mission impossible

Islamabad   The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Wednesday gave a seven-day deadline to encroachers, traders and market associations for removal of encroachments from markets otherwise action would be taken.   The warning before embarking on the ‘mission impossible’ has been issued under a comprehensive plan chalked out on the orders of Prime Minister’s Task Force on Islamabad Chairman Faisal Sakhi Butt, who has directed the CDA Enforcement Wing to carry out phased operations across the city for removal of encroachments from all markets of Islamabad.

JI rejects flawed voter lists, demands extensive reviewing

Karachi,  Jamaat-e Islami (JI) has rejected recently released voters lists and demanded their drastic review. JI Karachi Chief Muhammad Hussain Mehanti addressing a press conference at Idara-e Noor-e Haq Saturday said that voter lists contained more than 35% mistakes or bogus entries that seem inserted deliberately so as to favour a particular political party.

EU suspends PIA safety certificate

KARACHI: As a consequence of increasingly unprofessional and incompetent management, the fears regarding the devastation of the national airline are finally crystallising as the air safety certificate granted by the European Union (EU) to the PIA has been suspended with immediate effect. Sources have claimed that PIA’s Europe bound flights may also be cancelled in the near future.
