LANDIKOTAL: A senior tribal journalist Ashrafuddin Pirzada continued his hunger strike on the second day here on Thursday in Landikotal.

He sat in protest outside the Landikotal Press Club and chanted slogans against officials of Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) and Alfred Friendly Fellowship Program (AFPF) for violating principles and merit while selecting candidates for journalism scholarship in the US.

He asked for revision of the decision taken in favour of a reporter who had not worked in a conflict area and had never been the member of any press club in conflict zones in Pakistan. He said that his right was snatched and the scholarship was given to an undeserving NGO worker.

Ashrafuddin Pirzada claimed that criteria set for the selection of two conflict zone reporters for the scholarships was not followed. He asked the journalists bodies to support his demand for fair selection for award of the scholarships. He threatened to stage protest if his demand was not accepted within a week. Local journalists also took part in the hunger strike to show solidarity with him.
