Transporters demand cut in oil price

Karachi :   Karachi Transport Ittehad here Tuesday expressed dismay over not reducing oil prices in Pakistan despite their reduction in the international market, terming it injustice with booth commuters and transporters. KTI president Syed Irshad Bukhari and other leaders in a statement said the provincial government is not taking steps to solve the problems of Karachi public transporters. They said the situation would lead to less and less minibuses on Karachi roads as transporters could not afford running business in loss.

Time to provide relief not grief to people

LAHORE   It is time to provide relief, not grief, to the people of the region and the improvement in trade ties between India and Pakistan will help alleviate poverty and benefit the people of the region, said Harpinder Singh Gill, a distinguished member of the Indian delegation on visit to Pakistan, on Monday.   The 2nd Indo Pak Economic Conference is being held under the aegis of Aman Ki Asha.Talking to The News, Harpinder Singh Gill, who is on his third visit to Pakistan, stated that it was time both sides gave importance to enhancing the trade links and the issue should not suffer at the hands of politics.   “Trade between the two countries will benefit the people, improve people to people contact and put end to several other things which have disturbed the ties between the two sides” said Harpinder Singh, who hails from Amritsar, one of the historic and widely known city of Indian Punjab

Commission to probe Lyari deaths, says CM

Karachi   Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah announced on Monday that a commission would be set up to probe the killing of policemen and innocent persons during a Lyari operation.   He made this announcement at a press conference at the Chief Minister’s House, after he was asked if his government would form a judicial commission – a demand reportedly made by Pakistan People’s Party MNA Nabeel Gabol – to investigate the killings

India, Pakistan working to liberalise business visa regime: Sabharwal

LAHORE: Sharat Sabharwal, the Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan, has expressed hope that an agreement for liberalising business visa regime between India and Pakistan will be signed during a meeting of senior officials of two countries in coming weeks.   Addressing the inaugural session of the ‘2nd Indo-Pak Economic Conference’ held here under the Aman Ki Asha banner, Sabharwal paid tributes to the Jang Group, the Times of India Group, the Pakistan Business Council and the Confederation of Indian Industry for their initiative in organizing the conference.   He said that the conference would enable businessmen of both the countries to discuss modalities of further expansion of trade and economic relations.

Aman Ki Asha moot begins with high optimism, high hopes

LAHORE: The inaugural session of the 2nd Aman Ki Asha Economic Conference kicked off with booming intent and visionary approaches aimed at finding innovative solutions and profitable bilateral business proposals.   Amidst a constellation of big guns including the prime minister, governor, leading businessmen and socialites and media persons from both countries, the proceedings began with recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the National Anthem.   A special documentary regarding the road to pursuance of peace through people-to-people contact by the Aman Ki Asha was shown.

KP Assembly seeks induction of members from Fata agencies

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution asking the federal government to give representation to the residents of Fata in the provincial assembly as per consent of the tribal people.   Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights Arshad Abdullah moved the resolution in which he suggested to the government to treat the Fata inhabitants like it treated other citizens of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, abolish the newly constituted Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) Tribunal and establish a proper judicial forum.   The resolution also demanded deletion of clause (7) of Article 247 of the Constitution for being in violation of fundamental rights of tribal people and extension of the jurisdiction of the Supreme and high courts to the region.
